My friend Sally is an amazing angel. Her mom has Alzheimer’s Disease and is in a nursing home. Sally’s dad lives nearby, but needs daily help. Along with working full-time and being the mom of a teenager, nearly every day Sally visits her mom and stops in to help her dad. She has her parents over together for dinner once or twice a week, and makes sure her dad has a good dinner every night.
Sally is also an angel to all the other senior citizen’s at the nursing home. When friends have books they no longer want, Sally loads them in her trunk (boxes and boxes!!) and takes them to the nursing home – the residents there love to read! She also coordinates a few fun activities throughout the year – like strawberry shortcakes for everyone. She and a few other people get all the fixin’s and treat the entire nursing home to a yummy dessert!
Isn’t she an incredible example for Senior Citizen’s Day? Certainly we want to applaud all of the things done by those in generations before us, but this blog and WhatFriendsDo.com are all about what we can do for others in their time of need. Follow Sally’s example and do something special and fun for the senior citizens’ in your life – even if they are complete strangers!
Today’s Quote: I'd like to be the sort of friend that you have been to me. I'd like to be the help that you've been always glad to be; I'd like to mean as much to you each minute of the day, as you have meant, old friend of mine, to me along the way. - Edgar A. Guest
